Ranked choice voting is when voters are able to rank candidates in order of their preference rather than choosing one candidate. In the June 24 2025 primary election, you can list up to five candidates.
If a candidate receives more than 50% of the first choice vote, they win. If the first choice doesn’t win on the first ballot, there is a second round of vote tallies. The candidate with the least votes is eliminated and votes for that person are distributed to a voter’s second ranked candidate. It continues until a candidate gets over 50% of the votes.
Some unions are recommending a slate of candidates. The UAW9a is recommending voters to not rank Andrew Cuomo and instead rank endorse Brad Lander, Jessica Ramos, and Zohran Mamdani.
DC37 ranked endorsed Adrienne Adams, Zohran Mamdani, Zellnor Myrie.
