Meet 2025 New York City Mayoral Primary Candidates

Andrew Cuomo:

56th Governor of New York, resigned in response to allegations of sexual misconduct. Cuomo led New York during the COVID crisis. He points to his proven track record. He says, “New York City is in crisis,” and he can handle public safety including subway safety, mental health, addiction, and homelessness issues. He says he wants to see a “clean and livable New York City.”

Jessica Ramos:

City Councilperson from Queens, representing East Elmhurst, Corona, and Jackson Heights. She advocates for a rent-freeze and affordable housing, increased access to education in underserved communities, and mental health counseling in all public schools. She also wants to provide affordable childcare. UAW9A, Teamster Local804 and 808, and Downtown Women For Change support her.

Zohran Mamdani:

A Democratic Socialist and New York State Assemblyman representing Astoria. He wants to freeze rent, make buses free, provide free childcare. He also to wants to launch a department of community safety and build public supermarkets. He calls for an end to tax exemptions for NYU and Columbia. UAW9A, New York City Democratic Socialists of America, and the Working Families Party support him.

Brad Lander:

New York City Comptroller and former Brooklyn City councilperson. He wants to provide stable housing for people with mental health issues, fund early childhood education, and reduce disparities across race, gender, and ethnicity. He has been a consistent critic of the Adams administration and a strong progressive voice. UAW9A, the Working Families Party, Independent Neighborhood Democrats, Abundance New York, PSC CUNY, Stonewall Democrats, and Village Independent Democrats support him.

Adrienne Adams:

The Speaker of the New York City Council. She represents District 28 in Queens. She has worked for women’s rights, resolving racial and ethnic health disparities. She supports affordable housing, working mothers, and adult learners. CWA Local1180, New York Attorney General Leticia James, and DC37 support her.

Whitney Tilson:

An investor and editor at Stansberry Research. He supports charter schools. He wants to improve public safety, and has support from Wall Street activist investors including Bill Ackman.

Michael Blake:

Former Bronx State Assemblyman, worked as an aide to Barack Obama. He supports universal childcare, tax breaks for middle class homeowners, and expediting government payments to nonprofits.

Scott Stringer:

Former Manhattan Borough President, City Councilperson from the Upper West Side, long-time liberal Democrat. He wants to strengthen the NYPD, address corruption, and expand childcare services. Upper West Side elected officials and state lawmakers endorse him.

Zellnor Myrie:

Brooklyn State Senator. He wants to build 1 million affordable homes in New York City, change zoning, establish universal free afterschool programs. DC37, the Working Families Party, New York Progressive Action, Abundance New York, Sunrise NYC, Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn support him.
