In the heart of New York City’s vibrant hip-hop scene, DJ C-LO, 45, has become a force to be reckoned with. Known for his energetic sets and infectious personality, he has captivated audiences on Hot 97, one of the most influential radio stations in the country. But before he was spinning records, he was a young man growing up in the bustling streets of Harlem.

Carlos Villamar, C-LO, was raised in a musical household on the Westside of 137th Street. His sister, Evelyn Villamar, remembers that music was always a part of their “We’d have family gatherings and parties, and Carlos would be the one always trying to get on the mic,” Evelyn recalls.

Though music was always in his blood, it wasn’t his sole passion. Villamar also excelled in sports, particularly football. After a standout high school football career, in 2001 he earned a scholarship to play at SUNY Canton. However, a serious knee injury during his freshman year abruptly halted his athletic pursuits. Faced with uncertainty, C-LO turned to music as a source of solace and inspiration.

A friend introduced him to the world of DJing, and C-LO quickly fell in love with the art form. “I was drawn to the creativity and energy of DJing,” he explains. “It was a way to express myself and connect with people on a deeper level.”

C-LO’s talent and dedication caught the attention of Funkmaster Flex, a legendary DJ and radio personality. Flex recognized C-LO’s potential and took him under his wing in 2013, mentoring him and providing him with opportunities to perform on Hot 97. “Flex saw something in me,” C-LO recalls. “He believed in me, and that meant the world.”

Today, C-LO has worked with several high-profile names in the hip-hop and Latin music industries and is a respected figure in the hip-hop community. Some of the artists he’s been associated with include Cardi B, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, and DJ Khaled. Through his role on Hot 97 and La X96.3 FM, as well as his live performances, he has built a reputation for collaborating with major stars and providing a platform for emerging talent.

Despite his success, C-LO remains grounded. He credits his family and friends for keeping him humble. “They’ve always been there for me,” he says. “They’ve helped me stay focused and keep my feet on the ground.”

As for the future, C-LO has big plans. He’s working on new music projects, expanding his brand, and continuing to push the boundaries of DJing. “I want to keep inspiring people and making them feel good,” he says. “That’s what it’s all about.”
