City College Beavers continued its dominance over Medgar Evers College with a win in their latest matchup, securing a season sweep on March 27, 2025.

The Beavers bested Medgar Evers in three sets (25-11, 25-13, 25-12) at home in the Nat Holman Gymnasium.  The Beavers controlled the match from start to finish, securing their fourth win of the season.

“We’ve been really working on staying in sync with each other, executing the game plan, which has been our focus all season.” said Head Coach Nick Diunte

Coach Diunte explained his strategy for winning. He said, “It goes back to consistency, execution, and effort. If we work our gameplan, we’ll win this game.”

During an excellent night for City College, sophomore Brandon Green and freshman Gabriel Linus led the attack. They combined for 19 kills on an efficient .583 and .571 hitting percentage. Freshman Amir Nabiyev also had a standout performance from the service line, recording seven aces, while setter Kyrylo Vysotskyy contributed 27 assists.

Medgar Evers struggled offensively, posting a negative hitting percentage of -0.39 and failing to establish momentum. Medgar Evers put up their biggest fight in the second set, briefly holding a lead before CCNY reorganized to take back control.

With the victory, the Beavers improved to 4-18 overall and 3-11 in conference play, while Medgar Evers remains winless at 0-16 (0-13)

Following the team’s dominant performance, star players reviewed the win during a post-game interview.

Brandon Green stood out offensively. He said, “I’m just trying to keep things simple, as long as I was able to make the points.”

But he thinks there is room for improvement. “Our team did well executing the plays we already knew. One thing that we do need to work on is communication on the floor,” he said.

Kyrylo Vysotskyy said, “More people on the court should take control, not more so over our teammates but our own decisions when we’re on the court making sure that we go for anything that we see.”

Gabriel Linus said the match was a boost for his game. “It was pretty alright, it was nice to get in there, show my confidence, and present what I have.”

The Beavers showed they could execute their game plan under pressure. That is a crucial takeaway as they prepare for the postseason.

Coach Diunte’s emphasis on consistency and effort will no doubt play a pivotal role in how the Beavers finish out the season.
